malformalady: Famous Mezezo rough cut opal by J.P. Gier — Opal was first discovered in Mezezo, Shewa province in Ethiopia in the early 1990’s. Many of the Mezezo opals have a darker body color, tending to orange to red to chocolate brown. There are two type of Ethiopian opals one is the Chocolate type called Mezezo and the other is Welo, smaller rough has unlike Mezezo little or no matirix.
